FAQ
Answers to the questions we hear most, before you get in touch.
Here are the 26 questions customers most often ask while evaluating us, covering how quotations work, achievable accuracy, quality control and how drawing data is handled. If your question is not answered here, or concerns a specific project, please feel free to use the contact form.
INQUIRY & QUOTATION
Inquiries & Quotations
A.
From the concept stage. You do not need a formal drawing; a rough sketch, or simply a description of the part you want to make, is enough. Our designers will review it directly and respond with feasibility (whether the geometry can be produced stably in volume) and a budgetary estimate.
Manufacturing Process
Manufacturing Process
A.
Part drawing or data, material and thickness, critical dimensions and tolerances, expected quantity (monthly / annual volume or prototype quantity), target delivery date, and scope of engagement (die plus production, die only, or production only). With these we can issue an accurate quotation quickly. If you do not have everything, send what you have.
What to tell us when you inquire
What to tell us when you inquire
A.
Yes. Quotations are free, including the feasibility study and any geometry change proposals.
A.
Yes. We accept prototype and small-lot orders; please let us know the quantity when you inquire. For prototypes intended to lead into volume production, we propose a design that takes the transition to a production die into account.
A.
Both are possible. For die-only orders we handle everything from design through tryout and first-article inspection and deliver a die matched to your press specifications. For production-only orders we take custody of your existing die, check its condition and run production on our presses.
Engagement options (Manufacturing Process)
Engagement options (Manufacturing Process)
A.
It depends on the condition of the die and whether drawings are available, so please contact us first. After examining the die we will advise whether maintenance, modification or spare-part production is possible, together with a quotation.
A.
Lead time varies widely with part geometry, material, quantity and the number of die stations, so we do not publish a standard figure. When you inquire we review the details and advise a schedule based on current shop loading. If your project is urgent, please tell us.
DIE & TECHNOLOGY
Dies & Technology
A.
For die plates and stripper plates, our high-precision wire EDM operating under climate control has a proven pitch accuracy of ±0.002 mm (±2 µm) and surface roughness of Ra 0.04–0.2 µm. For stamped parts, accuracy depends on geometry and material, so we respond individually based on your drawing.
Specifications
Specifications
A.
We have extensive experience with sheet under 0.1 mm thick and with fine-pitch terminals. Typical ranges are listed on the Specifications page, but please ask about requirements beyond those ranges as well.
Specifications
Specifications
A.
Mainly materials used for electronic components and connector terminals: copper alloys such as phosphor bronze, beryllium copper and Corson alloy, as well as brass, nickel silver, stainless steel and nickel alloys. Please ask about pre-plated and clad materials too.

Specifications
A.
Yes. At the quotation stage we propose geometry changes and tolerancing approaches from a manufacturability standpoint. Resolving shapes that "can be made but will not run stably in production" at this stage has the greatest effect on die life and production cost.
Technology
Technology
A.
By maximising plate accuracy and reproducibility, we reproduce the designed clearances without relying on fine-tuning during assembly. The design incorporates slug-pulling prevention at the 1/1000 mm level, optimised relief and fit, and high-rigidity, high-concentricity assembly of carbide micro punches, while careful selection of materials and heat treatment suppresses dimensional change over time.

Die design data and machining data are retained by MD PRECISION and used for post-production modifications, spare parts and maintenance. Disclosure or transfer of data is handled individually in accordance with the terms of your contract.
PRODUCTION & QUALITY
Production & Quality
A.
We maintain an inspection regime suited to each part's characteristics and your requirements. In addition, tablets installed on every press collect production counts and stoppage data in real time, so early signs of minor stoppages are caught and fed back into die maintenance. Our quality management system is certified to ISO 9001:2015.

A.
Yes. We attach an inspection report compiling the measurement results from our image dimension measuring systems. Please ask about inspection data for production lots and about reports in your own specified format.
A.
Our die shop and stamping floor are in the same headquarters plant, so designers and toolmakers can examine the die on the spot, apply countermeasures and restart production. Because we hold the design and machining data in-house, we can remake components to the same accuracy under the same conditions.
Shipment & After-Sales Support

Reel-wound (continuous terminals), loose parts, trays and other formats to suit your downstream process. Please let us know your preferred format and specifications.
A.
We run 14 presses: 11 precision high-speed automatic presses and 3 servo presses. Available capacity depends on part geometry, number of stations and current loading, so please tell us your expected volume and we will respond individually.
DATA & CONFIDENTIALITY
Drawing Data & Confidentiality
A.
3D: STEP, IGES and Parasolid. 2D: DXF, DWG and PDF. Please ask about other formats.
